When chosen to be a Display Stamper for OnStage one of the requirements is to make a scrapbook page. It can be any kind of page - a pocket page or 6"x8" or 12"x12", but nevertheless - a scrapbook page.
Now...I'm a wanna-be scrapper. I hoard photos and 'stuff' awaiting the happy 'one day' that I will have time to sit and document memories. And, whenever I do make a page I spend a long time loving on it...it has to mean something - I need a connection with it. I find it very difficult to create from a kit or follow a layout sample, and I am usually inspired by the photo, be it colour or a single detail that catches my eye in the photo.
I don't know if it was because the Designer Paper I was given screamed BABY and that my babies are 21 and 17, or that the stamp sets I was given were of a house and a set of sentiments, or that I still had Percocet brain after my back surgery, but dang...creating a scrapbook page was getting put off and put off...I had nothing, and I mean NOTHING in my head! And the date for OnStage was LOOMING!
So in a last ditch attempt to get some mojo I asked my great pal Patty for some photos...she's recently been blessed with Grandchildren and I knew she could supply me with baby and toddler photos. A girl and a boy would work nicely with the pink and blue in the assigned Designer Paper.
I remembered a photo she shared on FB of her granddaughter outside in the back garden with her Grandad with umbrellas and wellies...that might be cute with the Umbrella Weather framelits and the Weather Together stamp set, and I might be able to incorporate the new colours somehow....
Then the photo appeared in my inbox!! And BOOM!!! There it was! The colours - straight out of SU's colour families with Marina Mist, Calypso Coral and Daffodil Delight...and the photo, with lots of grass, might look great on Lemon Lime Twist. And the wellies...they were Berry Burst! And I could possibly make wellies with the Christmas Stocking Thinlits. The New Sequin assortment had Calypso Coral, Pool Party and So Saffron in them which would match....and I could possibly use one of the sentiments from Just Add Text. It was like the stars had all aligned...you have no idea how excited I was!
And then...I looked at those little flowers on the brolly and looked at the In Color cards I had made (the post is HERE) with the Home Life stamp set and BANG that was it!
Now, this may well not be the greatest scrapbook page layout and I can hear the hard core scrappers shout out the things that aren't right...there's no Large Title, in fact my 'title' I embossed with white embossing powder and really it needs to be sponged for more contrast because it can hardly be seen, there's no mat under the photo, blah blah...
But....I LOVE it and what's more...Patty loves it...and, it's a small miracle that it exists at all ;)
