Quick Fathers Day Card

With My Digital Studio

....and 'The Open Sea'

A very quick post today!

This is a card I made with

My Digital Studio

It features the Stamp Set 'The Open Sea'

which is in the upcoming Summer Mini Catalog

available 1st May!

<;span style="color: #c1c1c1;">This set reminds me of 'Old Spice'....which is the aftershave

my Dad used to use!

The poor man - he would get that aftershave for every Birthday, Christmas

and Fathers Day gift!

I used to be so proud of myself when I was little when I had saved enough

and could afford to buy it for him....

soap on a rope, aftershave, shower gel!

Last December when he and Mum were visiting -

Mum and I saw a gift pack of it in Target.

We were so tempted to buy it for him for Christmas - but the weight just

would have been too much for them to add into what was already a laden

case.

Tutorial

Open My Digital Studio

Choose New Project > Cards and tags >

Greeting card > 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 >

Create your own

Choose a name for your project.

I like to keep the bleed area in view when I am creating a card.

Select Punches > Square Punch > Apply

1

Distort the Square punch into a rectangle,

making sure it covers the bleed area.

2

Now, change the colour to suit the night sky.

I choose 'Swatches' and the darkest blue.

3

Your screen will look like this.

4

Now add a circle punch.

5

Colour the circle Whisper White.

6

Now double click on the circle and the Settings pop-up will appear.

Enlarge the circle to 1.85

7

Now select the Drop Shadow for the circle punch.

Move both sliders to the far right,

and then click on the circle in the pop-up box

and you will be able to move the shadow to -8, 8

8

Now change the colour of the shadow to Whisper White.

9

Your circle will look like this.

10

Move your circle punch to the top right corner - make sure

you cannot see any blue in the top corner of the bleed area.

11

Now, select Add Stamp,

Find The Open Sea in your list.

Add the ship image.

12

Position the ship to the left and with the waves in line

with the blue / white division

13

Now, Edit > Copy

14

Edit > Paste

15

And you will have another ship on your page.

But, you need to change the colour of this copy

to Whisper White.

16

Now your page will look like this.

17

Now you need to send this White Ship 'back' in order....

Arrange > Send Backward

18

You will need to move the White ship

slightly to the right and above the Black one - this gives you the highlight.

So, now your page will look like this.

19

Select Add Stamp.....

and add another Ship to your project.

20

Once you have it on your page - you need to enlarge that image.

21

Align the ship hull with the blue / white division.

And Arrange > Send Backward

22

This will give you more waves - but will hide the ship!

23

Now - add the text you want!

Finito!

Great card Kirsteen! My husband still wears Old Spice...I've tried giving him other scents but keep coming back to Old Spice. We both like it on him.

Love your card -- Such a fun image. How did you do the silver rippling water -- & that wonderful moon/sun ??
As a teenager (many moons ago), I used to follow the smell of Old Spice -- down the aisle at church every Sunday -- & sit next to it. HA!!! AND sniff all during the service -- at this wonderful distracting smell!!!
The Old Spice smell still reminds me of that 1st high school love. AND to be truthful, I don't know if it was the young man (whom I lost track of) OR the smell that I liked way back then, when. I still love the OS aroma -- even tho DH doesn't wear any after shave & never has -- as we both have allergies to all of those strong smells -- wonderful as they were!

Great card, thank you for sharing! At the junction of the whisper white and not quite navy, I have also added a torn edge stamp in not quite navy (7,0 high), located behind the ships. I found it gives dimension to the water and makes it come alive, more agitated, as suggested by the surrounding waves.
