5/15/2017

This 10"x10" magnetic/pin board was the Saturday class at our retreat in April.

Attendees used the sentiments from the stamp set 'Crafting Forever' from the new catalog, and washi tape on the pins and tiny magnets to make them coordinate.

Registration for September Retreat will soon be open! Keep a look out here as spaces fill fast!

Home Life Congratulations card

I've previously shared a few projects I made using the Home Life stamp set in different ways...but I wanted to make a card for display that showed the way the set is meant to be used - with 3 different colours on the three different step stamps...and I wanted to give everyone at Shreveport looking at the display an idea of where I got the umbrella from for the scrapbook page I made (posted HERE)

I substituted Lemon Lime Twist for Daffodil Delight and added the ombré ribbon and some mini sequins to this card.

A happy (umbrella) coincidence.

There follows a LONG story regarding inspiration, an insight into how my brain works and how this project came about...you are welcome to scroll down to the pictures if you don't fancy the read ;)

When chosen to be a Display Stamper for OnStage one of the requirements is to make a scrapbook page. It can be any kind of page - a pocket page or 6"x8" or 12"x12", but nevertheless - a scrapbook page.

Now...I'm a wanna-be scrapper. I hoard photos and 'stuff' awaiting the happy 'one day' that I will have time to sit and document memories. And, whenever I do make a page I spend a long time loving on it...it has to mean something - I need a connection with it. I find it very difficult to create from a kit or follow a layout sample, and I am usually inspired by the photo, be it colour or a single detail that catches my eye in the photo.

I don't know if it was because the Designer Paper I was given screamed BABY and that my babies are 21 and 17, or that the stamp sets I was given were of a house and a set of sentiments, or that I still had Percocet brain after my back surgery, but dang...creating a scrapbook page was getting put off and put off...I had nothing, and I mean NOTHING in my head! And the date for OnStage was LOOMING!

So in a last ditch attempt to get some mojo I asked my great pal Patty for some photos...she's recently been blessed with Grandchildren and I knew she could supply me with baby and toddler photos. A girl and a boy would work nicely with the pink and blue in the assigned Designer Paper.

I remembered a photo she shared on FB of her granddaughter outside in the back garden with her Grandad with umbrellas and wellies...that might be cute with the Umbrella Weather framelits and the Weather Together stamp set, and I might be able to incorporate the new colours somehow....

Then the photo appeared in my inbox!! And BOOM!!! There it was! The colours - straight out of SU's colour families with Marina Mist, Calypso Coral and Daffodil Delight...and the photo, with lots of grass, might look great on Lemon Lime Twist. And the wellies...they were Berry Burst! And I could possibly make wellies with the Christmas Stocking Thinlits. The New Sequin assortment had Calypso Coral, Pool Party and So Saffron in them which would match....and I could possibly use one of the sentiments from Just Add Text. It was like the stars had all aligned...you have no idea how excited I was!

And then...I looked at those little flowers on the brolly and looked at the In Color cards I had made (the post is HERE) with the Home Life stamp set and BANG that was it!

Now, this may well not be the greatest scrapbook page layout and I can hear the hard core scrappers shout out the things that aren't right...there's no Large Title, in fact my 'title' I embossed with white embossing powder and really it needs to be sponged for more contrast because it can hardly be seen, there's no mat under the photo, blah blah...

But....I LOVE it and what's more...Patty loves it...and, it's a small miracle that it exists at all ;)

Yesterday I shared a card design that used the Home Life stamp set and the new 2017-18 In Colors. In addition to those for my display at OnStage in April, I also made these tags...also using In Colors and Home Life stamp set.

I stamped the images onto watercolour paper and added a little shading by blending with the aqua painter then cut out with the Stitched Shapes Framelits and Layering Circles Framelits. I then used the Fresh Fig Finely Woven ribbon to create the tag along with a little Linen Thread.

I really love how these came out...they are much nicer in person.

The 2017-18 In Colors

Here are some more samples from my Shreveport OnStage display.

I love showing the new in-colours each year with some white embossed images-using the same image on each colour.

For these cards I used Fresh Fig, Tranquil Tide, Powder Pink, Berry Burst and Lemon Lime Twist as my card bases. I then used the Home Life Stamp Set. The house in the Home Life set is a 3 step stamp so I stamped all the layers with Versamark and then embossed with white embossing powder.

There is a lovely framelit set to match this stamp set however I did not get those in my display product so I hand cut the houses and then popped them onto the card with Stampin' Dimensionals along with a wee bit of silver thread.

I then stamped and embossing the sentiment and cut by hand again, and then added a line of the mini sequin trim that's coming in the new catalog too, along with a strip of silver foil card at the bottom.

To finish I took a few of the mini sequins off the trim and glued them to the cards here and there and added a few jewels to the middle of a few flowers.

Mother and Father Frame Class

Whilst at Shreveport for the Stampin' Up! OnStage Event my great friend Leslie and I hosted a class for fellow demonstrators.  I designed a double frame class - one for Mother/feminine and one for Father/masculine.

For the Mother Frame I used the So Detailed Thinlits dies, That's the Tag Stamp Set and Timeless Tags Thinlits along with a layer of Succulent Garden Designer Paper. No matter how I photographed the frame it seemed I could not show how pretty it is in real life - I think because t is mostly white....so I am also showing you a close up.....

For the Father Frame I used Guy Greetings Stamp Set, Urban Underground Designer Paper, Washi Tape and Embellishments, Nailed It Stamp Set and the Build It Framelits.
