'Plane and Simple' Card......

Well, maybe not!

I am taking part in a swap with my Stampin' Up! buddies in Scotland...and I decided to go down the road of making a 'masculine' card.  I don't know why I have such a hard time trying to create 'male' cards....I'm not a flowery person (believe it or not!).

This card started out simple.....using the 'Plane and Simple' Stamp set - which in itself is 'masculine' right? So, I used just the plane image on a Very Vanilla background and some designer paper - mmmm, yuck. It looked 'feminine'! How could a Soft Suede Plane on a Vanilla background look 'feminine'??? It did though!

So, bump it up a little and use some of the rest of the stamps that come in the set, on the background.

Too 'in your face9;......so, how to make it more 'subtle'?  Ah ha! Emboss with the lattice die!

Yep - that worked, but now the plane was kind've lost, so I heat embossed it with clear embossing powder and popped it up with dimensionals.

Now it's a bit 'square'...too many corners, so I ran it through the Big Shot using the Top Note die.

But it needed ribbon (I may not be 'flowery' but, in case you haven't noticed - I am a ribbon lover)....heck - you can't put ribbon on a man card! Think, think, think.....TWILL TAPE!  But, in it's natural state - a bit boring.  Out come the re-inkers! I had a little production line going in the kitchen dying the twill tape with reinkers...Chocolate Chip, Crumb Cake, Early Espresso....but the Marina Mist turned out lovely...so decision made!

A little bit of corner rounding and some Linen Thread....done! 13 cards made and in the post, winging their way to Scotland.

Thanks for the idea Kirsteen! I also struggle with man cards, they turn out a tad non-descript.  This has lots of elements, which make it more interesting.  I like the idea of coloring the twill to match what I want!

I really like the way you stamped then embossed - it makes it look like designer paper, subtle yet appropriate for the card.  I alos like the twill tape- never thought to do that.
Thanks for sharing your ideas.
